Artistis Director
The Artistic Director of ART Station is a full-time salaried position reporting to the ART Station Board of Trustees. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Job Responsibilities: serves as Artistic Director of the organization, responsible for creating unity and a positive environment for arts production and arts education. Serve as the leader of an ensemble of artists, managers, arts educators, trustees and staff, committed to the mission and the vision of the organization and responsible for mobilizing others to accomplish the mission and the vision. Responsible for: 1) Artistic Direction, 2) Board Development and training, 3) Planning, 4) Personnel management and supervision of the artistic staff, 5) Fundraising, 6) Other duties as they become relevant for the success of the organization. ART Station was founded in 1986 as a multidisciplinary Arts Center with a mission of quality programs and accessibility to the arts.
Preferred Credentials
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts; Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts preferred.
At least 5 years’ experience in Artistic Direction and Arts Management.
Experience in the management and production of the visual arts and arts education.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent public speaking skills & experience.
Ability to serve as an impressive and credible artistic leader of the organization and a leader in the community.
Capable to successfully engage and supervising volunteers.
Specific Responsibilities:
Leads the artistic staff and volunteers.
Selects a season of plays that are appropriate to the ART Station audiences and accessible to the ART Station budget, mission and vision. Directs at least 60% of the selected plays and hires guest directors for the remaining shows in the season. Supervise Guest Directors.
Leads the ART Station production staff, including playwrights, directors, musical directors, lyricists, choreographers, actors, set, light, sound and costume designers, properties managers, stage managers, light and sound board operators, backstage running crews.
Responsible for the selection of programming for the ART Station Cabaret Series, the Lunchtime Series and any other additional artistic programming.
Oversee and approves the ART Station Gallery Series.
Responsible for approving gallery show content, jurors and artists in conjunction with the ART Station gallery manager.
Works in collaboration with the ART Station Educational Manager to develop and produce an arts educational series including Summer Arts Camp, Performance Company, Writers’ Intensive Program, Teen Company Performance Program and arts classes for children, adults and seniors.
Responsible for approving the ART Station teaching artists.
Responsible for the artistic direction of the production of the annual storytelling festival, A Tour of Southern Ghosts.
Including the visual atmosphere of the event.
Selecting and writing stories that are appropriate for the event and rehearsing the stories with the coaches and the storytellers.
Develops and produces outreach programs that are needed and appropriate to the ART Station community.
Creating collaborative projects and programs with other organizations that engage citizens to become involved in an arts experience.
Be willing to serve and participate as a member of the boards and/or committees of local organizations, i.e. Main Street Stone Mountain, Stone Mountain Downtown Development Authority, Village Forward, and any other organizations as appropriate.
Be involved, engaged and available to collaborate with local organizations including the Stone Mountain Woman's Club, the Stone Mountain Visitors Center and the Stone Mountain Rotary Club. Be available to represent ART Station in public speaking engagements with any other community organization.
Continue and be active in the collaborations with the City of Stone Mountain, DeKalb County, DeKalb Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, and the Georgia Council for the Arts.
Maintains a positive relationship with the Stone Mountain Memorial Association and Stone Mountain Park.
Be willing to serve on advisory panels for the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, the Fulton County Arts Council, the Georgia Association of Community Art Agencies, the Georgia Council for the Arts, South Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Be willing to travel throughout the United States to attend conferences such as Americans for the Arts, Southeastern Theatre Conference, Theatre Communications Group, Arts Action Research, The Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries
Be willing to travel throughout the United States to visit and see plays that may be available and appropriate to produce in the ART Station Theatre series.
Be willing to work in collaboration with the ART Station Managing Director on fiscal procedures, budgeting and management of the budget, investments and the writing of foundation, corporate and government grants.
Be willing to work in conjunction with the ART Station Board of Trustees to manage the legal, financial and fundraising aspects of the organization.
Responsible for creating and maintaining the visual “feel” and “look,” the creative environment of ART Station.
