Ghost Tours w Hirt2016

The ART Station produces Saturday evening “Village Ghost Tours” monthly. Ghost tour last approximately one hour. Tours are scheduled by reservation only and are $25 for adults and $18 for children 14 and under.  The tour is not recommended for children 8 and under. Guests on the tour ride the new ART Station Tram which is limited to six persons per tour.  No ticket exchanges or refunds. Reservations required.

Tours meet at ART Station and participants with reservations complete registration and insurance forms. The tour takes place on the new ART Station tram. Patrons are shuttled from ART Station to the Stone Mountain Cemetery where they are met by ART Station Master Storyteller David Hirt. While in the cemetery, David shares the stories of the man who is buried beside his horse, the story of ole Jim Higgins who is buried with a peck of hickory nuts and shares the phenomenon of the glow from the 200 confederate graves.

The tour continues through the historic village of Stone Mountain with stops at the Wells Brown House for a modern telling of Stone Mountain’s own Romeo and Juliet. Next stop is the historic Stillwell House where sightings have been seen of the old Reverend Stillwell and of Anita, a slave who longs to be set free. The tour continues with a stop at the oldest building in the village, the Andrew Johnson Home where villagers today still see the nurse in the window holding a candle. The tour ends with a stroll through the archway of the historic Depot to the Gazebo for the story of the burning man that can be seen running down the tracks on balmy nights in July.

ART Station has long been known as the established producer of Atlanta’s favorite Halloween event, “A Tour of Southern Ghosts” at Georgia’s Stone Mountain Park. This Village Ghost Tour is not a replacement of “A Tour of Southern Ghosts” but is an additional service provided to ART Station patrons.

Village Ghost Tours require a light to moderate amount of walking. Tours may be conducted in light rain, but will be canceled and rescheduled in the case of hard rain and severe weather. Refunds will be provided upon cancellation or patrons may reschedule for a future ghost tour.

* Private tours are available based on availability.
